Trian Experimenters Shield (TES)

Note: shown in optional command cube

The Train Experimenter’s Shield (TES) for the Arduino Uno (and most clones) is a receiver/decoder for the Lionel Legacy and compatible Systems. It receives its power from the AC voltage present on the Lionel three rail track (18VAC, nominal). See the user manual, “Train Experimenter.pdf”, for more detailed information.

Train Actuator Shield (TAS) Max

This model of the TAS has a built in “Snubber circuit” to improve the reliability when controlling somewhat inductive loads (like vintage Lionel animated accessories). It handles signals on Arduino Uno digital pins 4, 5, 6, and 7 (Match Commands 1, 2, 3, and 4). It is only available as a kit. No preassembled version is offered. See the user manual, “Train Actuator.pdf”, for more detailed information.

Train Actuator Shield (TAS) Heavy

This model of the TAS has a built in “Snubber circuit” and two 10 amp triacs to allow control of high current loads, such as an uncoupling track. It handles command signals on Arduino Uno digital pins 6 and 7 (Match Commands 3 & 4). It is only available as a kit. No preassembled version is offered. See the user manual, “Train Actuator.pdf”, for more detailed information.

Infrared Experimenter Shield

Note: shown in optional acrylic case

This IR Experimenter Shield is based on the original 2015 development of the Controller 2020 Shield. The Controller 2020 did not have a custom PCB and was made by tediously soldering wires and components onto a prototype shield. That vintage Controller 2020 also had discrete Arduino RS232 converter and IR Sensor boards. The new IR Experimenter Shield is a descendant of this old design using a custom PCB with an integrated IR receiving diode and RS232 converter chip.
